Frequently asked questions

How Sparky helps people connect, and how the app keeps those conversations respectful.

What is Sparky?

Sparky is an AI host that helps you find real people to talk with over shared casual interests. You chat with Sparky first, then Sparky may suggest a one-to-one or group connection when there is a good overlap. If you're new, the welcome page gives the quick tour.

How do I start?

Tell Sparky what kind of conversation would feel good today. A sentence or two about hobbies, activities, music, food, books, games, travel, or how you're feeling today gives Sparky more to work with.

How do connections work?

Sparky looks for overlapping recent topics and conversation styles between people. If there is a potential fit, Sparky may show a connection card. Sparky can suggest a direct chat or invite someone into an existing group conversation. If you're comparing friend apps, see the best apps to make friends roundup or the Sparky vs Bumble For Friends comparison.

What do Connect and Not now mean?

Connect accepts or approves the suggested connection. If everyone needed for that invite accepts, Sparky opens the conversation. Not now dismisses the invite, and Sparky keeps listening for other possible connections.

Who can use Sparky?

Sparky is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority where you live, to create an account or use the app.

What is the Safety Pact?

The Safety Pact is the respectful communication agreement users complete before chatting, matching, accepting invites, or sending room messages. The goal is to keep conversations constructive and welcoming.

How does moderation work?

Messages may be moderated. If a message is hostile, unsafe, or otherwise violates the rules, Sparky may block it, warn the sender, or pause that person's ability to send more messages.

Can I report a message?

Yes. In conversations, you can report visible peer messages. Reports are stored for review.

Do my conversations with Sparky get shared with others?

Sparky does not show your private Sparky chat to other users as a transcript. To help start a connection, Sparky may share a high-level topic or short setup line, like a shared interest. It should not quote what you told Sparky or share sensitive details.

What data does Sparky store?

Sparky stores data needed to run the app, including account and profile information, solo Sparky chat, invites, room messages, moderation records, reports, and operational records. Text you submit, plus bounded recent context, may be processed by AI services for replies, moderation, topic classification, and connection suggestions.

How do I sign in?

Sparky supports email sign-in links, Google sign-in, and Apple sign-in where configured. Email links may ask you to re-enter the same email address if you open the link in a different browser.

What happens if I delete my account?

Account deletion removes your sign-in, profile, active matching state, invites, and room membership. Shared conversation history can remain visible to other room members.

What if Sparky says it cannot connect to its brain?

That means Sparky could not reach our backend servers. Try again later, or edit and resend.
